1. Gather at the Central Park Entrance across from the Museum of Natural History
This walk is an experiment in interspecies dialogue. As we move through the city, we’ll treat it as a place of encounter – not just between humans, but also with other sentient beings, spectral presences, and layered histories. Our inspiration is the surrealist artist and writer Leonora Carrington (1917–2011). She lived here in New York for a short time, in the early 1940s, while fleeing World War II, before eventually settling in Mexico. In her work, Carrington often imagined worlds of equality between humans and animals. This walk draws on that vision. Animals will accompany us – real, remembered, and imagined. We’ll look at hybrid figures, nonhuman alter-egos, the strange intimacy between women and horses, and the uncanny presence of horses in the city streets.
